Description:

Serbia held early parliamentary elections on October 25, with Vucic's SNS facing the student-led 'Students Win' list. Polls ranged from SNS 47.4% vs students 40% (Ipsos) to students 44.5% (NSPM). This forecast resolves yes if credible estimates such as the Archive of Public Gatherings, Reuters or AP report a single anti-government or anti-result protest in Belgrade with more than 10,000 people within 60 days.

Synthesis:

Elections and their aftermath lead today's outlook. Israel faces long coalition talks after the October 27 vote, and Serbia's contest between Vucic and the student movement is likely to bring large new protests in Belgrade. Meanwhile, Ukraine's deep strikes on Russian energy sites look set to continue, and Iranian assassination threats keep the risk to US officials elevated, though it remains low.

Seldon's Analysis:

The sociologist gave 0.58 and the Skeptic kept it. I go higher. The student movement has repeatedly put far more than 10,000 people on Belgrade's streets since late 2024 (the March 2025 protest was estimated at around 300,000), so the threshold is low for a movement this size. Most polls point to an SNS win (Ipsos 47.4 vs 40). If SNS wins, which I put at about 65%, claims of fraud and abuse of state resources would give students a clear reason to rally, and I estimate an 85-90% chance of a 10,000+ protest. If the students win or the result is disputed, the chance of protest over contested counts or institutional obstruction is lower, around 40%. Combined, that comes to about 0.70. I also tend to underestimate social outcomes by about 24 points, and the sociologist's record is improving, so I move slightly up. The risks are protest fatigue and the movement shifting to parliamentary work if it wins seats. The Brazil-style low-purity reading of contested elections argues for caution, so I stay well below 0.85.
